An the moral of the story is: Everyone can make the world a happier place if we all reach out to those among us who are angry, sad, lonely, or otherwise suffering for some reason or other. How is this moral expressed: Yoichi leaves his mountain home to live with & learn from 4 sisters with the olderst one being a fellow practitioner of the same kendo style. While there, he helps them trust each other more & believe in themselves more. All of the other people he meets starts off as enemies, but he makes friends with them & helps them understand that they didn't need to use violence or to isolate themselves or to use trickery to get what they want or to be happy; all they needed to do was to be open & honest about what they wanted & how they felt to themselves & to the people they cared most about. And at the end when he needed help, they all returned the favor by reminding him of how he changed their lives for the better. To bad about the girls' father being inflicted with an impulse to kill his girls & that no one knows how to remove it so he can't live with his children. Interesting that he's friends with Yoichi's father but that both parents are unaware that their children are all living together. Also of note: The story ends with some of the main characters in a situation that usually serves as the starting point or main plot of most other stories -- The Love Triangle. This story was not what I was expecting.
